ABOUT THE RIPPER ART PRIZE 2025 – Leisure and pleasure

Gallery Jones, in partnership with Milieu Property and Rippon Lea Estate, is delighted to announce the Ripper Art Prize 2025. We invite artists to submit their works for a chance to be part of this prestigious exhibition, which explores the theme “Leisure and pleasure”.

Artists are invited to delve into the myriad ways in which humans experience and interpret moments of joy, relaxation, and contentment. Artists are encouraged to visit Ripponlea Estate reflect on the various facets of leisure and pleasure, considering cultural, social, and personal perspectives. This theme embraces a wide range of interpretations, from everyday moments of bliss to profound reflections on the nature of happiness and the essence of a fulfilled life.

The Ripper Art Prize and Exhibition aims to be one of Australia’s premier awards for contemporary art. This prestigious $10,000 annual prize is open to established and emerging Australian contemporary artists, with all short-listed artworks for sale.

ABOUT THE JUDGES

Alana Kushnir
Alana is an art lawyer, advisor and curator based in Melbourne, Australia. In addition to being the Founder and Director of Guest Work Agency and Guest Club, she is the Principal Investigator of the Serpentine’s Legal Lab, which investigates legal issues and prototyping accessible legal solutions for the arts technologies field. She is also a Board Director of the Jewish Museum of Australia, an arbitrator for the Court of Arbitration for Art (CAfA) and a member of the Art, Cultural Institutions and Heritage Law Committee of the International Bar Association.

Duro Jovicic
Duro Jovicic works full time in the corporate sector and is a freelance writer based in Melbourne. He holds an MIB (Master of International Business) from The University of Swinburne and has recently commenced an Associate Degree in Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT. Duro is a lifelong patron of the arts and writes for magazines such as Imprint, Art Guide Australia, Art Edit, The Journal of Australian Ceramics and Art Collector.

Sophie Perez
Sophie Perez is a British-born artist who graduated with an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London, in 2003. Now based on the Mornington Peninsula in Australia, her work draws inspiration from the surrounding landscapes and everyday life, using paint to convey their narratives, history, and atmosphere. A celebrated finalist in the Mosman Art Prize, Paddington Art Prize, and Lethbridge Art Prize, Sophie is represented by Australian Galleries, showcasing her evocative and textured landscapes across the country.

Founded in 2022, Gallery Jones Art & Frame House is an independent, light-filled space dedicated to celebrating the arts and connecting creators with collectors and the wider community. Nestled in the culturally rich Rippon Lea area on Bunurong Land, our gallery pays homage to Louisa Jones, a passionate advocate for the arts in the 1930s and the former owner of the nearby Rippon Lea Estate.

At the heart of Gallery Jones is our commitment to craftsmanship. Our high-end custom picture framing service is led by our in-house master framer, bringing years of expertise and artistry to every project. Each frame is hand-crafted to complement and protect your artwork, preserving its beauty for generations.
